San FranciscoInternational Institute of San FranciscoJason Felch, Project CoordinatorThe International Institute of San Francisco is focusing its project on youth participating in the YouthCares Project which places high school students in the homes of elderly persons in the south of Mission area to do various types of assistance. These elderly persons have feared teenagers of other ethnic groups, and the project is aimed both at providing assistance to the elderly and working to break through the cultural gaps caused by both ethnicity and age. ![]() During the training February 24-28, 1998 a group of students and refugee resettlement workers came together to learn from each other and to prepare for more effective work across cultures. Trainers were Dr. Duane Ruth-Heffelbower of PACS, Elaine Enns, another member of the faculty of PACS, and Frank Disimino of Immigration and Refugee Services of America.
